Community Programs Coordinator Position: Available with SAALT in Washington D.C.

About SAALT
SAALT is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering an environment in which all South Asians in America can participate fully in civic life, and have influence over policies that affect them. SAALT works to achieve this goal through advocacy, community education, local capacity-building, and leadership development. SAALT cultivates partnerships with and among South Asian organizations and individuals; amplifies the concerns of disempowered community members; and works in collaboration with broader civil and immigrant rights movements.

About the Position
SAALT seeks a dynamic, self-starter with strong organizational, program planning and implementation, and communications skills to deepen and expand our civic engagement and leadership development programs in the South Asian community. The Community Programs Coordinator will be responsible for directing SAALT's long-term and short-term outreach, education, and volunteer-based projects and initiatives.

The Coordinator will ensure that our programs are being guided by local needs and concerns; will connect our work with SAALT members, individual community members and SAALT's local partners; and will link programs with policy change at the local and national level. The Coordinator will work closely with SAALT's Policy Director and Executive Director.

We seek individuals available to make at minimum a two year commitment to SAALT's work. The Community Programs Coordinator will work in SAALT's Takoma Park, MD office.

Responsibilities include:
Program Planning and Implementation:
* Coordinate short-term and long-term national projects related to community education; civic engagement; and leadership development
* Plan and implement projects in a timely fashion with input from local partners
* Specific ongoing projects will include implementing civic engagement townhalls in cities with South Asian populations and annual electoral participation/monitoring project; working with the South Asian Speakers' Bureau; supervising the annual community service project, Be the Change; and working with SAALT Circles around the country

Supervision of Interns and Local Coordinators
* Direct SAALT's internship program; recruit, interview and select interns
* Co-supervise local outreach coordinators with Executive Director

Development of Outreach and Education Materials
* Coordinate, draft and develop materials as necessary for long-term and short-term projects

Community Outreach
* Identify opportunities to engage with the general public and community members
* Present information about SAALT at workshops and forums

Partnerships and Coalitions
* Identify strategic coalition-building opportunities for SAALT within and outside the South Asian community
* Sustain SAALT's current local partnerships and develop new ones

Qualifications
* College graduate
* Experience of 1 year at minimum related to program planning/implementation or community organizing/outreach in a non-profit sector
* Must be located in Washington DC metropolitan area or be willing to relocate
* Must be available to travel, including weeknights and weekends
* Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills with public speaking experience
* Ability to multitask, set and meet deadlines, and find creative solutions
* Strong team player who is familiar with team dynamics and flexible with working in a team setting
* Comfortable with using Microsoft Office suite

Compensation:
This is a full-time salaried position at SAALT with benefits.
